RE: Carpet damaged by slide room

I recently found at Home d'po a vinyl runner, clear, that has nibs for grabbing the carpet. At $9 each, you might consider same. I install mine the minute I return from an outing, (after the mandatory vacuuming) and leave it in till we're ready to leave next trip.

RE: Battery cut off switch ???

WD is fish oil plus Godknowswhat. I have never seen WD succeed at something that a REAL lubricant, cleaner, or loosening agent (kroil, Lubee, liquid wrench, etc) could do a lot better.

Flashing 'Pre-view' boxes & Loooong pre-view boxes.

For the last few weeks, whenever I try to 'pre-view' certain posts, the pre-view box just flashes on & off. Other posts on the same forum (Tech Issues) display the box normally, except that ALL the pre view boxes have suddenly streched to about 3" high, empty save for the brief preview. I'm using an IBM 600X laptop running XP Pro. Six weeks ago, everything was normal. Now, it's all confused.

RE: Boy do I need help!

Bill - there's one thing you, like many of us, will learn - Suburban furnaces LOVE to be fixed. To get to the question - In my unit, there is a larger outer 'cage' that the ductwork is attached to. Inside that cage is the 'inner chassis' that has all the works attached. you need only to remove two screws that hold the chassis to the cage, and it's loose. I did not say FREE, only loose. There are a few wires that need to be marked & cut (it's the easiest way to go). Unfortunately on my SF30, the fuel supply is a copper pipe that needs to be unbent to allow extraction of the inner chassis. After unbending and re-bending 4 or 5 times, I had a leak hazard. The pipe was kinked. I got my furnace fixed finally, having ordered some parts. Then, I had a local plumber with a propane sniffer remove the copper pipe and install a long BBQ grill hose, re-routing it. At least now I feel safe. PS- someone told me that Suburban gives their designers awards for inaccessable designs. Hahaha.
Best of luck . . . . ....Joe

RE: Electrical Question...

To be honest - I look at this as a retorical question. I'd guess that no one would actually try it, and if they did, ther'd be more breakers breaking than you'ld see at Bar Harbor in a week, not to mention fried wiring. Actually, I think this fits into 'culling the herd' no?

RE: Electrical Question...

OK, all you nattering nabobs of negativism (remember that phrase? who said it??) What if , as I read & re-read the question, he means two 15 Amp breakers fed by the same bus - would that work? - if not, why not?

You got the right advise - shut it off and leave it off. End of mystery drain problem.

RE: pulsating 12 volt house lights

Are we sure the pulsating is on the +12 line - the lights and accessories? or is it on the 120V line when fed by the converter?

RE: Atwood water heater - leak

I'd do it a bit differently . . . .wrap TFE taps a min of 2 wraps on the male thread (plug) then coat the female threads (tank) with that nice white thread joint compound. (rector makes it, as well as a few others) I've found that this arrangement requires a whole lot less torque to seal.

RE: hot water heater again..

So -you got no gas. Locate the red wire coming from the control module. It should have 12 V on it. This 12V passes thru the ECO switch, and runs to the propane valve. If you have no 12V, perhaps the ECO is bad, or the control module has crapped out. If you have 12V to the valves, one may be stuck closed or one of the windings may be open. With everything OFF, measure the resistance of the valves (red wire) to ground. Should be in the 12 Ohm area.

RE: Cleaning Bugs off Front of RV

dgo - re Rain-x - it needs to be applied to a surface with a silicate base, IE: glass. I tried it once on my rig, and it did nothing. I tried it on my fiberglass shower and it just washed away., so I called Rain-X. Now I believe what they said

RE: Max altitude for LP water heater and Honda generator

Ditto on Dixon's post. We, too, spent a few days at the North rim. The only problem? The fuel pump crapped out right at the 8800 ft sign, and we had to pull over (real trick w/o a fuel pump) and let everything cool down. THEN we could zip down into the campground and have happy hour. The rim is actually lower just past that sign. You need to get that high so you can turn back and get down to the rim.

For the windshield, Rain-X will let the wind shear off insects. For the body, need something real hard. Have you tried any of the 'poly' waxes?

RE: CHECK FOR LOW BATTERY

The 1'2V side' website, as well as the Exide site,Trojan site, and a number of others, will show a chart that tells you at what voltage the battery is being harmed. The key here is making sure that the battery is neither being charged nor discharged when taking your reading. Some say to test it directly at the terminals for most accurate readings.

RE: Number of amps thru 12v plug??

One of the limiting factors is how good the contact is when you plug something in. I've seen cig liter plugs get warm when a 8 AMP load was connected, due to a crappy connection at the tip end. I vote thumbs down on using a cig liter socket for anything serious. Radar detectors....OK.

Have you tried looking for a weak GROUND connection? It would yield the same symptoms as a weak +12V connection.

RE: New member here with a Water pump issue (please help)

Advise you take voltage readings at the pump with it running off the genny, and with it running off the batteries. Almost a sure bet it's a voltage sag problem, although Polishnurse has quite an interesting approach. I never thought of that. Is your genny near the water pump?

RE: Hot Water wont light

Try removing and re-seating the connector at the ignitor board. Sounds like the board is getting no 12V. Do you hear the gas valve clinking? Ifnot, take a test light to the red wire to the control board and see if there's power when you turn on the heater.
An aside - good to hear from Mousefart again. I wonder what woke him up?
